Paradise on Earth
The modernisation works are complete! With enlarged accommodation and exclusive appointment, the Maritim Hotel Mauritius combines luxury and location to truly earn the claim: Paradise on Earth
Bad Salzuflen / Germany - Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
It would be easy not to move at all. The bed is extremely comfortable, complemented by a pillow that cradles head and neck perfectly. The terrace door is open and a gentle breeze carries the invigorating scent of the ocean into the room where it mixes with the delicious smell of fresh linen. The waves pound out a hypnotic beat as they rhythmically kiss the shore below and the luxurious, tropical-style furniture in one’s peripheral vision completes the effect. Breakfast awaits. A selection of freshly cut tropical fruits and juices made from the pressing thereof… The last remnants of a fabulous nights sleep are blinked away as one sits up. Another day in paradise has officially begun – at the Maritim Hotel Mauritius. Those who already know the multi award-winning hotel might ask how it’s even possible to improve upon what was already there. The months of renovation, new construction and modernisation have resulted in walk-in wardrobes, luxurious bathrooms, expanded room layouts and much, much more. It’s something Maritim likes to call ‘enhancing perfection’.
Beachcombing with a difference
After partaking in a sumptuous breakfast, one strolls through the landscaped grounds to the hotel’s new equestrian facilities. One of the stable’s 12 residents neighs a greeting - eagerly anticipating the upcoming ride along the beaches of Turtle Bay. Afterwards, one steps into the cool confines of the hotel’s French-colonial style ‘Château Mon Désir’ restaurant. Located in the Balaclava ruins – once a pirate hideaway – top chefs pamper discerning diners with a mouth-watering selection of international specialties. The meal is complemented by a chilled chardonnay and breathtaking views over the entwining bougainvilleas and the lagoon.
The palms of paradise
The sun is high, the sunglasses are on. A gentle breeze caresses the branches of the palm tree under which this particular sunbed is located. The leafy shadows dance with shards of sunlight over the white sands from which it sprouts. One contemplates the waters a few steps away with what might prove to be the day’s toughest decision: waterskiing or sailing, windsurfing or scuba diving? Or perhaps indulging in a little indecision is best. Simply staying right where one is and enjoying an icy cocktail with a friend…
Natural beauty
Part of the hotel’s expansive grounds house purpose-built horticultural facilities. The exotic flowers and plants within contain various ingredients that are extracted to create tailor made cosmetics. After professional skin-type analysis, the highly trained staff at the new ‘Tropical Flower Spa’ prepare massage oils, peelings and masks right before one’s eyes. The beauty and spa facility enjoys a prime spot in the hotel’s 25 hectare landscaped grounds and has its own idyllic waterfall, swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and tranquillity area. Applications and treatments are carried out in the pavilions and there is a garden of the senses for yoga and meditation. Stress doesn’t stand a chance…
A toast…
Revived and rejuvenated, light evening wear is donned before a seat is taken at one of the hotel’s restaurants. The meal is excellent, the wine superb. The sun has not yet quite gone down and afterwards, one takes a twilight stroll to see the turtles that give the sought-after bay its name. The sun sinks into the turquoise depths of the Indian Ocean, soon to be replaced by a moon that glows brightly amidst a clear sky full of stars. A mellow music mix with a tropical beat entices beachcombers back to the hotel where the evening has officially begun. The bartender mixes guests their favourite cocktails - just the way they like them - as the three other people making up the golf party scheduled to tee off tomorrow at 10 enter. Will the compliments for one’s putting be as forthcoming as those for the serving during the evening tennis match the evening before? One makes a mental note to visit one of the hotel’s seven exclusive boutiques after breakfast to pick up a small reward for tomorrow’s winner as newfound friends raise a glass to another unforgettable day in paradise…
